Note: The PolyChromatic Web site also provides a list of poly-related books.
- The Ethical Slut: A Guide to Infinite Sexual Possibilities, by Dossie Easton, Catherine A. Liszt. This is a frank, funny, wise and sometimes confronting book looking at a really wide variety of polyamory issues. Many poly people I know rate this their favorite poly book. Melbournian bookshops known to stock it are 'Hares & Hyenas' (135 Commercial Rd, South Yarra - phone 9824 0110) and 'Polyester Books' (330 Brunswick St, Fitzroy - phone 9419 5223). Best to call these shops first as stocks can run out.
- Polyamory: The New Love Without Limits: Secrets of Sustainable Intimate Relationships, by Dr. Deborah M. Anapol. This book is in a more traditional "self-help book" format, and is less confronting and a little more formal than the Ethical Slut. Full of good stuff based on practical experience and research, and a good book to give to more conventional family members if you are coming out to them, and if they need more information - it looks reassuringly "normal"!
- The New Intimacy: Open-Ended Marriage and Alternative Lifestyles, by Ronald Mazur.
- The Myth of Monogamy: Fidelity and Infidelity in Animals and People, by David P. Barash Ph.D. and Judith Eve Lipton M.D.
- Survivors of an Open Marriage, by Jennifer Gates.
- Redefining Our Relationships: Guidelines for Responsible Open Relationships, by Wendy-O Matik.
- Open Marriage: A New Life Style for Couples, by Nena O'Neill and George O'Neil.
- Threesome: How to Fulfill Your Favorite Fantasy, by Lori Gammon and Bill Strong.
- Polyamory: Roadmaps for the Clueless and Hopeful, by Anthony D. Ravenscroft.
- The Lesbian Polyamory Reader: Open Relationships, Non-Monogamy, and Casual Sex, edited by Marcia Munson and Judith P. Stelboum.
- Love You Two, by Maria Pallotta-Chiarolli. A novel from the viewpoint of a teenage girl journeying through the discovery and eventual understanding of her parents’ polyamory.
- Open: Love, Sex and Life in an Open Marriage, by Jenny Block.
Children's Books
- Strange Stories for Strange Kids, by Art Spiegelman. This includes a story called "The Little House That Ran Away", which tells the story of a house who runs away and meets and marries two other characters Huff and Puff (and they have little House Huff and House Puff children).
- Elsie-Marie and Her Seven Little Daddies, by Gabrielle Charbonnet and Pija Lindenbaum.
Film
Movies
- Bandits, starring Bruce Willis, Cate Blanchette and Billy-Bob Thornton. A lively comedy with the delicious line (from Cate): "What if I don't want to (choose)?"
- Ordinary Decent Criminal, starring Kevin Spacey as an Irish crim who has 'married' two sisters.
Documentaries
- When Two Won't Do. A very moving self-made Canadian documentary of the progression of a poly relationship.
- Poly People, by producer Muffy Potter. A six-minute look at one Australian poly family, made by a student documentary maker.
